The Volunteer Legion Netherlands was founded in 1941 and was intended to recruit Dutch volunteers to fight alongside Germany against the Soviet Union. In practice, the legion was part of the German Waffen-SS. In the summer of 1943, the legion was transformed into the SS-Freiwilligen-Panzergrenadier Brigade Nederland.
