US WW2 M2 D-Bale Paratrooper Helmet & Inland Liner

SOLD

In a nice combat used condition an original early US WW2 M2 D-Bale paratrooper helmet. Due to design flaw of the M2 any considererable pressure put on the loops would cause them to snap at the welds.
This example features an original field repair, both loops have been replaced with thick steel wire which was passed through the factory weld points, peened over the shell’s exterior and rewelded. The helmet showcases an original field repoaint atop the factory finish and cork texture.
The repaint has concealed much of the heat stamp however -09A is visible. The original brass buckled khaki paratrooper chinstraps are still present, allthough one is torn and wedged between the loop and the shell.
The helmet comes with an original Inland paratrooper liner in a matching condition to the M2 helmet. The liner has non painted steel A washers , factory installed khaki A yokes (one exhibits a small and hard to notice repair), steel wire buckles and brass sockets to accomodate the corresponding snaps on the shell’s chinstraps. A very nice and incredibly scarce M2 helmet in a nice combat used condition. A must have for every US Airborne collector!
