Brigade Piron Service Cap 1940

In a very good condition a heavy wool service cap of the well known Brigade Piron. The cap itself is an 1940 dated Canadian cap and comes with the war time applied Belgian Lion badge. INside the band the cap seems to be named but hard to make out. A very nice and decorative cap of a famous unit involved in the liberation of Europe.

Brigade Piron originated in 1940, with hundreds of Belgian soldiers who had escaped to Britain,. The Belgian Forces in Britain were officially made available to the Allies on 4 June 1942. On 29 July 1944, the Brigade was ordered to be ready to move. Its first units arrived in Normandy on 30 July and the main body arrived at Arromanches. On 2 September 1944, the Brigade and the Dutch Prinses Irene Brigade had been transferred to the Second Army and ordered to move as quickly as possible to the Belgian border. During Operation Market-Garden the Brigade was assigned to guard the right flank of the British 30th corps.
